Vuci Village at a Glance
Nestled on the Rewa River delta, Vuci is a village in the Tokatoka district of Fiji’s Tailevu Province, about a 45-minute drive from Nausori town. It’s the traditional home of the Vanua Naivirourou, which is made up of four clans (yavusa): Naivirourou, Naturuturukula, Naivirivosa, and Nasautabu.
In People and Community
Vuci is home to 272 adults (146 women, 126 men) living in 71 families across 68 households. Many villagers work as subsistence farmers or sell fish and seafood at the Nausori market. The village is deeply religious, with at least five Christian denominations present, including Wesleyan, Pentecostal, Methodist, Seventh Day Adventists, and Latter Day Saints.
Governance and Values
The village is guided by its traditional chief, the Turaga na Tui Vuci (Ratu George Kavoronavatu Bakoso), with daily management by the Turaga ni Koro (village headman). Core values include unity, mentorship, self-reliance, and accountability, with decisions made collectively at Bose Vanua and Bose Vakoro meetings.
Vision and Strategic Plan
Vuci has launched a 2024–2028 Strategic Plan focused on building resilience and prosperity from the ground up. The plan is built on five “Strategic Core Areas” covering traditional leadership, health, economic empowerment, conservation, and good governance. The village has also formally declared God’s sovereignty over its land and people.
Village Infrastructure and Amenities

Economic Development
The economic vision is to turn communal land into attractive investment packages, including:
· Proposed Businesses: Real estate, bakery, supermarket, carwash, yaqona sales, and transportation services.
· Agriculture & Aquaculture: Reviving farming of prawns, fish, crab, beef cattle, dalo, cassava, kumala, and yaqona.
· Past Support: In 2010, the government provided sewing machines to the Vuci Women’s Club to help generate income.
From its strong cultural roots to its forward-thinking strategic plan, Vuci is a community determined to build a sustainable and prosperous future.
